Dear all, I would like you to locate and come to class having read the Freire text one more time. I then need you to read Aime Cesaire's text "Discourse on Colonialism." Please annotate the text and come having understood as best as possible.
You are supposed to get ready for our big day tomorrow! Today in class we practice digesting the prompt and created an outline in preparation for tomorrow. I have uploaded the prompt to practice with. Make sure that you annotate the prompt, outline the prompt, and write the first two paragraphs. This should take you no longer than 20 - 25 minutes. Please make sure you bring this to class. This is your ticket to getting to take the timed write.
Homework: Due Tuesday, Sept 5th, 2017
Your goal is to identify one allusion that appears multiple times throughout the whole text. It would be preferable if it appears in the beginning the middle and the end. Your goal is to be able to see how the allusion progresses or builds to help you arrive at the theme or the purpose. Please email if you have any questions. I will expect that you have the quotes written down with page numbers, your analysis of the quote/allusion and a clear written explanation of how that connects to the theme or purpose.
In Class: Today we started off by looking at quotes from Freire and Cesaire. It was to help us get into a mind frame that looks for depth past the literal in our text. We then got into groups of five and then rerad Freire's text for about 30 minutes. Two students after class asked for some support so I directed them to this website (click on the link that has Freire's name on it) plato.stanford.edu/entries/civic-education/#PauFreLibPed. We then looked at our scores on CEL on Freire and on BMU 1 . I have some shout out so students can go to each other for support. We then went over pg. 13 and focused on the fact of how the double entry helps us find the strongest quotes and work through focusing on "imagery, symbol, allusion" while working on or depth and analysis.
Homework: 1. Complete the Freire reading with annotations 2. Re-read ch. 13 paying attention to the river and how it changes through the chapter. Please annotate on the copy I printed for you all. 3. Complete your CEL for pg. 13. I will have office hours Wednesday if you would like help.
