Thursday, August 24th, 2017:
1. Do now: The do now is posted in the atachments. It was about the Chinelos. This was supposed to help us think about the reason why Anaya might have included the Virgin in BMU 2. We moved to an independent writing on the Virgin de Guadalupe reading we had (please see slides on that) 3. Quickly we went over pg 5-6 and looked at the first line and compared that with the first lines about Genesis. 4. We finished class by taking the lexile teste. 5. HW is to write an original claim on the Virgin de Guadalupe. Due Friday at the start of class.
(15min) Please write on the board: Find three connections between Freire and Anaya’s texts. Please make sure you have quotes for both and an explanation (should have six quotes in total)
Freire:
(30 min) Students will get into groups of 4 (there will be one group of 3) and they will take out their Freire’s text. They will have 30 minutes to read the text, with chrome books, and to annotate.
CEL work:
(30 min) Students were supposed to complete their CEL on chapter 1 allusion. However, they will have time in class to work on it in class, revise, and complete their work. It should be due at the end of the period.
Virgin de Guadalupe
(15 min) Please have the students get in pairs or back in their groups of 4 and read the Virgin de Guadalupe. As they are reading they should be making connections to the Virgin and Ch.1 (and possibly to other chapters).
Extra time
If there is any extra time students can decide to continue with Freire, Virgin de Guadalupe, or work on their CEL
HW: is to complete the Virgin de Guadalupe reading
