1. Today in class we did a quick analysis and write of the pigeon. It should be graded and placed in the grade book. 2. We then started learning about TP-CASTT and how to start the process. Thursday we will do a more in depth, less rushed, analysis of the text. 3. You homework is to analyze the poem and start to construct a draft. I suggest a draft of five pages, three pages is best, and one page double spaced is the minimum. 4. Prompt: Carefully read the poem, “This Morning” by Raymond Carver, and write a well-organized essay in which you discuss how the literary devices help reveal the speakers attitude toward nature. You may consider such devices as setting, diction, symbol, and syntax. 5. Final Essay will be due Friday at 11:59pm.
Homework: Due Monday at 11:59 pm
1. For Friday's HW you retyped your handwritten time-write and added five-things you could have changed or improved about the piece. 2. On Friday we looked at the definition of exile and the layers it has and the way that broadens our ability to interpret the prompt and the text. We then worked on compiling a list of what exile could me in reference in Native Son and then class ended with people creating different moments/unique moments where exile could be discussed. 3. Your HW is to revise and improve your essay you wrote in reference to the prompt. You should use quotes, with citation, and analyze the moments in NS. It should be three pages typed, 12 point, New Times Roman, and double spaced. You will then copy and paste the essay on the same page, but this time you will take out the quotes and discuss the quote as detail. This is so you get comfortable with writing without exact quotes and instead using detail. Your final submission should be six pages.
